GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A trio of area non-profits are singing the praises of the green and gold following the teams most recent round of charitable giving.
The Green Bay Packers Foundation is at it again, as on Thursday they issued their annual impact grants.
Since 2013, including this year, the initiative has awarded over $4.5 million to Green Bay-based non-profit organizations.
“Traditionally our impact grants are structured to allow local non-profit organizations to direct significant funds as they see fit,” explains Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy. “They can channel it towards programs and initiatives.”
Each grant issued on Thursday was a matching grant for $250,000, meaning that the recipients are required to raise an additional $250,000 in order to secure the donation.
The organizations that accepted the funds were Freedom House, Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity, and Give BIG Green Bay.
“At Freedom House, we offer financial planning, case management support, debt reduction, credit rehabilitation services,” explains Nicole Schneider, President of Freedom House. “So they really can become a good renter and be on their own again.”
Their organization is directing the funds towards their ongoing capital campaign.
“We’re building a new shelter at our St. Anthony site and it’s going to be constructed, hopefully, by November,” explains Schneider. “It’ll house sixty families.”
The goal is to keep the money in the community and direct it towards those that are most in need of charitable resources.
“Our recipients this year work directly with some of the most vulnerable populations,” explains Murphy. “We’re proud to support them in their work.”
All in attendance agreed that the grants will have an immediate and sustaining impact.
“The impact grant will provide for a convenient, highly visible ReStore for shoppers and those coming to donate new and gently used furniture, home-improvement goods, and building materials,” says Cora Haltaufderheid, executive director of Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity. “The expansion of the ReStore will enable us to carry on our long-term sustainability and momentum of building more Habitat homes to approved families who are deserving of quality, safe, stable, affordable housing.”
For Murphy, it’s one of the more important days of the year on the Packers calendar.
“We are also proud to continue supporting Give BIG Green Bay, which has grown rapidly since 2017, as it continues to raise funds for numerous local nonprofits and showcase our community’s generosity and enthusiasm,” he explains.
