STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – It’s been nine months since Russia invaded Ukraine, and many civilians are in need of light and hope as the war rages on.
Door County Candle Company is continuing its efforts to support Ukrainians, now by sending candles into the war-torn nation.
With every purchase of the shop’s Ukraine Candle, a small tin candle will be sent to Ukraine — providing light and hope to those in darkness.
When the initial fundraiser launched back in February, the Ukrainian owner had originally aimed for raising $5,000. That goal has evolved to $1 million.
One hundred percent of profits from the Ukraine Candle sales go to Razom, a non-profit Ukrainian-American human rights organization.
“Ukraine needs light, and all the hope it can get,” said owner Christiana Gorchynsky Trapani. “We’ve been sent photos from Ukraine where their only source of light is a candle.”
Customers can also send a candle to Ukraine even if they do not want to purchase the Ukraine Candle.
