DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – De Pere Police say a woman shot her husband and then turned the gun on herself over the weekend.
The investigation of two bodies found in a bedroom of De Pere residence has determined how the occurrence took place.
“It is very clear that this was a murder-suicide,” said Captain Chad Opicka of the De Pere Police Department.
On Sunday evening, officers were called to 1245 O’Keefe Court for a welfare check. Officers say a family member that was residing elsewhere called about concerns.
“Sharon was having a conversation with a family member that evening and that family member and during that conversation was when some concerns were identified for the safety of those inside.”
Upon arriving on the scene, Officers found the bodies of 65-year-old Gerald R. Linzmier and 64-year-old Sharon A. Linzmeier.
He says they still would like to figure out the motive.
“To put those pieces together we need to communicate with the family to understand what Gerald and Sharon’s relationship was like. We want to assist the family in getting closure and their questions consist of why. Why did Sharon do this to Gerald?”
Police say the two were married and lived alone at the residence. Both had gunshot wounds from a small-caliber handgun. Officers were able to recover the handgun at the scene.
He said call records show very low call volume in the neighborhood and they are not aware of any calls coming in about that residence in the past.
