GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers have submitted plans to increase the size of the Lambeau Field sign in the stadium’s north end zone as the team prepares to put in new scoreboards for the 2023 season.
The width of the north scoreboard will be expanding approximately 46%, according to city of Green Bay documents. The documents do not say whether the height will also be expanding, but it does not appear the scoreboard will be any higher than it is now based on renderings the Packers submitted to the city.
Lambeau Field lettering behind the scoreboard will be expanding approximately 47% to 1,238 square feet, according to the city documents. That specific increase is what the Packers are looking to receive approval for from the city’s plan commission and city council.
The city of Green Bay requires signs receive approval for stadiums with capacity larger than 10,000 people.
It appears only plans for the north scoreboard were submitted, according to the agenda for Monday’s plan commission meeting.
Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy told fans at the annual shareholders meeting in July that the scoreboards were being replaced with revenue raised from the team’s recent stock sale.
“Our current boards are coming up on 10 years so I mean they’re still good but you go to some of the newer stadiums, you see the difference,” Murphy told the shareholders.
The stock sale raised $65.8 million, which is helping fund other upgrades at Lambeau Field, including concourse upgrades.
