Peace Tree at Brown County Courthouse
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay was merry and bright on Wednesday night during the Holiday Season Kickoff. The event began with the peace tree lighting ceremony at the Brown County Courthouse.
“It’s [the peace tree lighting] an over 50 year tradition started by an organization called People for People” said Green Bay Mayor, Eric Genrich. “It was started during the Vietnam War as a citizen-led initiative to work towards peace as a world.”
Preble High School students in Vox, the a cappella group, were invited to share their talents at the event and sang pieces from Linus and Lucy to Let There be Peace on Earth.
Planning for the lighting celebration took about six months, and will be on display through the end of March.
