MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Milwaukee County residents can have their say tonight in a public meeting by the Milwaukee County Board’s finance committee on the proposed budget for next year.
Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele is proposing a $60-wheel tax. He says the money is needed for bus service and construction projects. It would raise $27-million for a dedicated fund for transportation.
The $60 would be added onto the current $75 registration fee that vehicle owners are charged each year. Milwaukee County’s wheel tax would be the most expensive in the state. Most other counties or municipalities that have a wheel tax charge between $15 and $25. The City of Milwaukee already collects a $20 wheel tax on vehicles registered within city limits.
The public hearing is tonight at 6:00 in the Bradley Pavilion at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
