WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) — The former U.S. Senator that’s campaigning to get his old job back made a stop in Wausau Thursday.
Russ Feingold was downtown with supporters, as he returns to his old campaign plan of visiting all 72 of Wisconsin’s counties. He told WAOW television that people he’s heard from are optimistic about the future, even though the economic recovery hasn’t brought household incomes up enough. “What I’m hearing from people, from families is they’re having a hard time paying their bills, that even though the economic recovery has occurred and they may have a job, that they have a hard time paying the bills. The wages haven’t necessarily kept pace. The cost of college education and higher education is high, but there’s also optimism.”
Many are predicting the November 8th Johnson-Feingold rematch could be the most expensive Senate campaign ever. The Feingold campaign reported raising 2.7 million dollars in the last quarter alone, which is around $300,000 dollars more than the third quarter of 2015. Senator Johnson’s campaign has not filed their fourth quarter report yet.
Feingold held the office for 18 years until Johnson won the seat six years ago.
