GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The 10th annual Veteran Suicide Awareness March will occur on Saturday at the KI Convention Center. This march is the largest yearly fundraiser for 4th H.O.O.A.H Wisconsin, which stands for Helping Out Our American Heroes.
“It’s a walk, not a run. So anybody can participate.” says HOOAH Secretary, Chelsea Kocken. “There’s strollers, there’s dogs, there’s young and old and everything in between.”
The opening ceremony begins at 8 a.m., but participants should arrive early if they still need to register. Registration is $35 per person, and will occur at the KI Center from 6-8 a.m. before the event begins.
When speaking of the overall goal of this event, Kocken said “If we can make an impact on one person, weather they’re taking that to say ‘I have to go out and make a difference’ or one veteran who is really struggling and said ‘you know what, people are here and they care.'”
Participants can choose between the 17.6 mile route, or the 1.76 mile route. The length of the routes is representative of veteran lives lost to suicide each day, which is 17.6.
