GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Brown County. It affects the Green Bay shoreline, the Fox River, and the East River.
Fox Harbor’s dock was seen floating down the Fox River.
Officials believe that high water levels and wind caused the dock to break free and float away.
Adam VanPay of Fox Harbor also saw it.
“It was crazy because I was on the phone trying to figure out who to call or what to do with the dock,” said VanPay. “You see this 100-foot-long dock going down the river and there’s nothing you can do about it except watch it.”
The dock’s journey ended at the shore near Georgia Pacific’s downtown paper mill where it was recovered.
It is believed that dock is broken in two places but the hope is to have it repaired.
This weekend, many were expected to use the dock in order to check out all the Tall Ships.
On Wednesday at approximately 7:00 P.M, Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area of Longtail Beach Lane in the Village of Suamico for the report of rising water and flooding.
A storm that entered the area from the northeast had strong gusts of wind, which in turn forced waters from the Door County area down into the Bay of Green Bay and into local rivers.
Deputies, along with the Suamico Fire Department, were able to assist residents in evacuating from the area.
Deputies responded with the agencies’ MRAP and assisted residents with evacuating from their houses.
Two families were completely displaced from their houses.
As of 9:00pm, the waters had receded allowing the final evacuations.
