APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some of the world’s top athletes in their field are coming to Appleton, but their sport might not be what you’re expecting.
Throwers at the top of their game will be sharpening their blades for the 2022 World Axe Throwing League and World Knife Throwing League championships at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center this December.
Throwers from 38 states and from across the world will compete for world titles. Wisconsin will have 26 throwers representing the state.
Throwers will be competing in knife, duals, hatchet and big axe throwing.
Knife throwing kicks off the competition on Dec. 2, with duals following later that day. Hatchet throwing and big axe competition will take place on Dec. 3. The finals for all four disciplines will occur on Dec. 4 and will be broadcast on ESPN.
While the competition is open to the public, attendees will need to purchase a ticket for Sunday’s finals. The previous days’ competitions are free to the public, though.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the championships can register online.
