MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Amazon wants the build a second North American headquarters. Milwaukee wants to be considered as the location.
Mayor Tom Barrett has sent a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos to make the pitch for the city. Barrett says the city has everything Amazon needs in terms of mass transit, willing partners, a stable environment and universities. Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow tells WISN-TV that Amazon’s large distribution center already operating in Kenosha County helps the area’s chances.
Amazon invited cities to submit proposals after a posting on the company’s web site this week. They’re looking to locate in an urban area with about 1-million people and a stable, business-friendly environment. Amazon will spend about $5-billion on its new headquarters, and will employ about 50,000 people. Barrett’s office says Milwaukee meets all of Amazon’s requirements.
Amazon says the new site will be co-equal with their existing headquarters in Washington State.
Milwaukee will make a formal pitch to Amazon next month.
