NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – In order to have a successful year, kids need school supplies. Now all the students at a Neenah elementary school have them.
“We are going to be giving out backpacks to every single girl and boy at Taft Elementary School,” Kristine Cohn from the Kids in Need Foundation said.
The students at Taft Elementary aren’t the only ones– a total of 2,000 backpacks will be given out in Neenah, Appleton, Oshkosh and Green Bay.
Cohn tells FOX 11 inside each backpack are 20 school supplies.
“When boys and girls have the supplies they need, their attendance is better, their behavior is better and they’re concentrating on what the teacher says. Not looking around the room to see what somebody has that they don’t.”
Some of those supplies are folders, crayons, markers pencils, and rulers. The backpacks are being given through a partnership between the Kids in Need Foundation and Jewelers Mutual.
“We realize that we’re a successful company and in order for us to continue to be successful, we have to make sure our future is successful as well,” Ken Murray from Jewelers Mutual said.
Murray tells FOX 11 the bags were packed at the Jewelers Mutual headquarters.
“These kids can hopefully go on and live their lives and not have to worry about, do I have a backpack, do I have a notebook,”
Now, these kids are set for the year.
The Kids in Need Foundation said it gave out school supplies to 6.3 million students across the country last year.
