OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Winnebago County Park officials discussed whether dogs on a leash should be allowed throughout the entire Park in Oshkosh.
Right now, no pets are allowed outside of the dog park portion.
Nearby residents are not able to walk their dogs on any of the pathways, or trails from their homes, to the dog park.
Right now people have to drive.
A group of citizens wants the county ordinance changed to allow dogs on a leash anywhere in the park.
Stephanie Pereira Da Silva, North Park Neighborhood Association tells FOX 11….
“We, as a community, are trying to do more to reduce our carbon footprint, we’re trying to be a more active community, as well, and so telling folks to get in their car and drive is just being counterproductive.”
By letting dogs anywhere within the park, the parks committee was concerned it would increase the amount of waste.
The committee ultimately did decide to change the ordinance, but just to allow dogs on a leash on shared-use pathways.
The Winnebago County Board will vote on the change next month at its meeting.
