GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Packers are teaming up with Bellin Health to fight cancer.
Tuesday kicked off the third annual Packers vs Cancer initiative, raising money for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation.
Packer Kicker Mason Crosby says cancer hits close to home with him.”I lost my grandmother to cancer, in that time, my sister-in-law, here in the last three years, has battled ovarian cancer and actually, just recently, my wife had a lung tumor that was removed and because of the efforts of campaigns like this, because of what the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation does to raise money to help fight this.”
He says the campaign makes a difference.
“Everyone that is currently fighting in my life, is able to have a chance and they’re able to continue to fight this horrible disease,” said Crosby. Throughout the month of October, fans can purchase the Packers Vs. Cancer New Era knit hat, sold online and at the Packers Pro Shop.
Money goes to the foundation.
For every purchase, $5 will go to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. Shoppers can also directly donate to the foundation while in the store. The team will match up to $10,000 in donations.
Fans can also attend the Packers Vs. Cancer High School Football Game of the Week, where Packers players and volunteers will be selling rally towels and t-shirts, all to benefit the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation. This year’s game is in Kaukauna on Oct. 18 when the Ghosts take on the Hortonville Polar Bears. The initiative goes for the month of October.
