GRAND CHUTE (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man and woman were found dead in Grand Chute, police have confirmed new information on the case.
Grand Chute police now say the 40-year-old man and 36-year-old woman apparently died from gunshot wounds.
Police found the bodies inside a locked bedroom in a home Monday morning.
The home is located on West Roberts Avenue.
“I just saw the crime scene tape and I said, ‘Something serious has happened over there,’” said neighbor Carolyn Doire.
Doire is one of several neighbors in the tight-knit Grand Chute community.
“Us neighbors, you know, we all care about each other here and, you know, we’re deeply hurt by what’s going on, because they were such nice people,” said Doire.
Doire says the man and woman lived at the home on West Roberts Avenue with their five children.
She says the family was friendly, but not many knew them well.
“They pretty much kept to themselves but, if you saw them outside, they would wave to you, and if you went over there they’d talk to you,” she said.
Police were called to their home for a welfare check just before 6 a.m.
Officers arrived and, unfortunately, found two deceased individuals,” Officer Travis Waas of the Grand Chute Police Department explained.
Police won’t release the names of those individuals.
“At this time, just out of respect for the family, we’re not going to be revealing the names, or the actual address of the incident,” said Waas.
Family and friends of the couple were seen gathering some belongings from the home Tuesday.
“I’ve never seen anything like this go on with family support,” Doire said. “It’s just sad, at one time, but it’s just wonderful to see those people come together.”
More than 20 people showed up to the home in carloads.
“It’s just so sad that something like this could happen in our nice, quiet neighborhood, but things happen,” said Doire.
And that sentiment seemed to resonate with the entire town of Grand Chute.
“It was a day that weighed heavy on our hearts, it really did,” Waas said.
Officers still believe it’s an isolated incident, and the public is not in danger.
FOX 11 reached out to the Appleton Area School District. It confirmed the couple’s five kids are all students in the district.
A district spokesperson says crisis response teams will be available to all students.
