GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Solar panels shine atop the NeighborWorks Green Bay building.
“We teach families every day about the importance of making smart decisions in their home buying choices, making sure that they’re looking for an energy-efficient home,” said Noel Halvorsen, NeighborWorks President, and CEO.
Halvorsen tells FOX 11 the addition of solar panels to the organization’s roof makes sense.
“That roof over there’s got that great southern exposure and the sun shining on it most of the year and why not get some solar panels on there and help generate some electricity and offset our consumption of electricity off the grid.”
The solar panels provide enough power for 10 homes a year.
NeighborWorks says the solar panel project costs nearly $158,000. On Tuesday Solar for Good presented NeighborWorks with a $29,623 check.
Focus on Energy also presented NeighborWorks with a check for $29,378.
The Schneider Foundation donated $23,000. NeighborWorks says it paid for the rest of the project.
“When NeighborWorks came in to talk to our foundation team, we just immediately thought it was a natural fit,” said LuEllen Oskey, Schneider Foundation director.
She tells FOX 11 Schneider considers what’s now the NeighborWorks’ building the birthplace of the trucking company.
“Al Schneider coming to Green Bay and selling his company car to buy the first truck and then purchasing this building and getting 10 trucks so it’s just amazing to see what his original dream was.”
Schneider’s foundation director says NeighborWorks’ community efforts are another reason why the organization received a donation.
NeighborWorks expects to save $7,000 a year in utility costs.
