OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Oshkosh Boys and Girls Club is breaking ground on a $16 million expansion.
After buying 12 houses along Monroe Street over the past year, the club finally broke ground on a new building Monday.
The expansion project will create more space for their elementary and school programming and also create a community space.
Officials say the club — which serves over 800 youth daily and about 1,800 children each year — has had to turn people away because of a lack of space. Each summer, the club says it has over 100 children on its waiting list.
“We are the largest youth serving organization in Oshkosh, and this is really an opportunity for us to be able to further our reach and reach more kids and families,” said CEO of the Boys and Girls Club Tracy Ogdan.
The addition will include a new playground and courtyard, an additional gym and play space.
The project is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete.
