WAUWATOSA, WI (WSAU) Briggs & Stratton is bringing engine production back to the United States from Japan.
The Wauwatosa-base company says it will start building its engines in Statesboro, Georgia and Auburn, Alabama. About 50 jobs will be added at each factory.
Production will be phased in stateside starting next summer. All of the work will be returned to the US by 2019.
“We see this as a strategic competitive advantage because we can manufacture closer to our customers in the U.S., resulting in faster production times and faster shipping,” Senior Vice President David J. Rodgers said in a written statement.
Briggs & Stratton’s V-Twin Vanguard engines are used for lawn, agriculture, marine, construction, fire and rescue, and commercial turf vehicles.
