GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – High schools in the Green Bay area competed for a good cause Saturday.
Green Bay East, West, Preble and Southwest high school bands represented their schools to collect food for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin for the “Stock the Box” event.
Many in the community gathered at the Lambeau Field parking lot to drop off non-perishable food items today.
Organizers tells FOX 11 the collection is important, especially this time of year.
“I know what it’s going to mean going on to the next weeks and months as we start distributing product. We make sure we are able to get it. The weather’s starting to change. Hunger gets pretty scary this time of year. That pushes peoples finances. Which means there is less money available for food. When I’m able to take products like this, into the food pantry’s programs and shelters, it’s where it’s needed most,” said Patti Habeck, Feeding America Eastern WI president and CEO.
Green Bay West High School collected the most food and earned a $2,000 grant for its music program.
