VILLAGE OF WRIGHTSTOWN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An eight-year Brown County road project is now complete.
Officials held a ribbon-cutting Tuesday, signaling the end of roadwork on County Highway ZZ.
The $23 million project reconstructed 11-miles of County Highway ZZ in the Village of Wrightstown and the Towns of Rockland and Wrightstown.
Brown County Highway Commissioner Paul Fontecchio said back in 2012, the particular stretch along the Fox River was a scary drive.
“That shoreline, as steep as it was, there was places where it was concave and the only thing holding that shore up was the tree roots.”
The winding roadway had been plagued by erosion for years, creating setbacks and making it more challenging than typical road projects.
“We had to pull the roadway away from the river to create a step so that we could do shoreline protection and for about three miles along the Fox River, this ended up being a much bigger project,” Fontecchio explained.
But in the end, Fontecchio says it was a good investment.
“This is one of those projects that transforms the landscape generationally. I mean this is something that’s going to outlast all of us.”
