The day after getting eliminated from the playoffs for the first time in five years, the Milwaukee Brewers shook it off and shutout the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0 Tuesday night at American Family Field.
Eric Lauer, Jake Cousins and Peter Strzelecki combined to throw a one hit gem. Lauer got through six innings on no hit ball to earn the win, walking four and striking out 7. Cousins allowed the only hit, a Josh Rojas single in the 7th and Strzelecki earned his first big league save pitching the ninth.
Offensively, Garrett Mitchell is putting a cap on his first month in the big leagues as he homered in the second off Zac Gallen. He would later single and steal a base. Luis Urias hit a solo shot in the third and added an RBI double in the 5th going 3 for 4 in the game.
The Brewers (86-75) wrap up the regular season Wednesday afternoon. Corbin Burnes will look to finish the year as the National League’s top strikeout pitcher as he faces Merrill Kelly. Pre-game coverage of the finale begins at 2:35 PM with a 3:10 PM first pitch on WNFL.
