APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Longtime Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna says while he’s not seeking re-election to a 7th term next spring….he’s not going to simply fade away.
On WTAQ’s ‘Matt-Earl & The Morning News’ Hanna says he just decided this is a good time to walk away from city hall.
“You don’t get to sign up for this thing a month at a time or a year at a time….it’s a 4-year commitment.”
So it’s time to let someone else take the keys. It’s time to slow down and spend time with his grandkids.
“I have to make a decision. Do I want to keep doing this or do something else? I’ll be 63 in March.”
And he’s going out the door with no regrets.
“I don’t feel like I could leave the city in much better shape what it is.”
Hanna says the mark he’s leaving behind that gives him the most pride isn’t a big building or development.
“It’s the way we go about our business, it’s the culture we’ve been able to establish.”
Hanna points to the way the city runs and the quality services it delivers. When an issue or initiative comes along in the future that’s important to the city, Hanna says he’ll speak up.
