GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Snowfall across NE Wisconsin overnight.
Drivers need to up their game and take steps to keep yourself out of trouble on the roads.
Brown County Sheriff’s Captain Dan Sandberg says that means slow down, keep as much space as possible between you and other vehicles.
“Drive slower and be aware of the weather conditions so you can stop in time”
And don’t forget to watch out for the snowplows.
“Just don’t crowd the snowplows or travel beside them. They’re trying to work on those roads and you don’t know when they’re going to stop.”
And don’t think because you’re behind the wheel of a 4-wheel SUV the rules don’t apply.
“Every vehicle reacts the same when they hit those really slick, iced up roads.”
Sandberg adds it’s also a good idea to make sure your car or truck is ready for winter driving conditions.
“Take care of your car. That means you have proper tread levels on those tires. If you have bald tires there’s more chance you’re going to lose control of your vehicle.”
Even though we’re used to winter driving conditions, Sandberg says it still takes us a few times out on the snow and ice to get used to it.
