GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – We are in the middle of the open enrollment period for Medicare, and scams regarding the healthcare service are continuing to appear.
The open enrollment period runs through December 7th, and Susan Bach from the Better Business Bureau says many people dealing with Medicare can be vulnerable.
“Scammers know this and they take advantage, reaching out to the Medicare customers and trying to get them to switch plans or maybe even trying to get them to turn over personal information as part of an identity theft scheme,” Bach warns, “don’t give out any Medicare numbers to anyone besides your doctor or other providers and don’t ever make a quick decision or be pressured into a quick decision about your healthcare plan.”
Bach also reminds people that Medicare will never call, visit, or text you. They only send information through postal mail services.
Bach says “if you ever feel like you’re being pressured too much or they’re asking for personal information, just feel free to hang up.”
