GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Four former Green Bay firefighters received a memorial Sunday, having died in the line of duty.
The four firefighters served in the department decades ago.
During the ceremony, the department presented each of the families with a flag, rang a final bell for each of them and played “Taps.”
Green Bay Metro Fire Chief David Litton chief says that technology now has allowed them to recognize them as having died in the line of duty.
“They died from cancer, several decades ago, and in some cases, more than four decades ago. And back then, we didn’t have scientific evidence of causal effect between cancer and firefighting.”
The four names have also been added to the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Wall in Colorado.
