GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Packer players, including Aaron Jones, Jimmy Graham, and Aaron Rodgers enjoyed food, games and sharing stories with area veterans as they came together for the first annual Huddle for Heroes at The Turn in the Titletown District on Tuesday.
“We have one player captain at each booth here and so all of these veterans are going to get the chance to play and talk with these players that they see on Sunday”, said Ryan Fencl, Packers Outreach Specialist.
Veterans from all branches were welcomed.
Holly Hoppe is a Green Bay native and retired from the US Air Force and says it was an awesome event that was great for everyone involved.
“How often do you get to hug Aaron Rodgers?
Fencl says the event is a win-win for both the players and the veterans.
“These are heroes from the football field, but obviously those heroes are not out there if these heroes did not do what they did.”
“You have the young kids now that look at the Packers as heroes, but as they get older, they realize that a lot of us put the uniform on,” Hoppe said.
The players spent time talking with Veterans, playing simulated games against each other and give the Veterans a tour of Lambeau Field.
The event is part of the NFL’s Salute to Service outreach initiative.
