APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man already facing charges for allegedly posing as a doctor and writing bogus unlicensed prescriptions now faces a new charge for allegedly breaking into a neighboring dental office and stealing supplies.
Kyle Larsen, 33, waived a preliminary hearing Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the two counts of burglary in 2018.
He previously had pleaded not guilty to 18 counts, including practicing pharmacy without a license, practicing medicine without a license, and unlicensed practice of psychology. A plea hearing scheduled on the medical cases was delayed from Thursday to Dec. 19 because of the new counts.
In the medical cases, Larsen allegedly wrote prescriptions he was unlicensed to issue. During the investigation, police discovered a written prescription from Dr. Robert Bastic at Appleton Dental Group.
Bastic did not write the prescription, however. Bastic informed police there had been burglaries at the business – which is in the same building as an office Larsen had. Upon reviewing the items seized from Larsen, multiple items allegedly taken from the dental clinic were found.
A separate charge alleges Larsen broke into a gift shop and stole items from a vehicle in the parking lot of a thrift shop, according to the complaint.
Investigators began looking into Larsen’s practice after a report of suspicious services being offered by him, under the name “Dr. Kyle Ellis.”
Larsen had a nursing license–which state records show is expired–but while posing as a doctor, Larsen allegedly provided a variety of medical treatments and prescribed and dispensed medications to patients, investigators say.
