SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Dozens of hunters took to the Brown County Rifle Range on Friday to dial in final adjustments on their guns and scopes before hitting the woods next week.
The facility features ten shooting lanes with targets up to 100 yards away. Parks Director Matt Kriese says the county is doing their best to help hunters ahead of the season.
“People don’t need to bring their own spotting scopes. They don’t need their own targets. They don’t need their own hearing protection. We provide everything here,” says Kriese. Tyler Breitenfeldt of Pittsfield is optimistic, but says sighting in his rifle is an important factor in his success.
“Definitely shot more than I want to, but it went okay. Why is it important to do this? You usually only get one chance, so you got to make sure it counts,” Breitenfeldt says, “We had a good bow season, so we’re pretty excited. It looks to be good. So we just got to get lucky.”
Bob Christiansen of Chase says it’s a stop he needs to make before every hunting season. Christiansen hopes to see a deer instead of a target in front of his scope next week.
“You don’t want to miss a deer for one thing. And you don’t want to wound one either, have them get away and suffer. So get a clean kill,” says Christiansen, “There’s enough deer around. Hopefully the big one comes. But there’s little ones too.”
The Brown County Rifle Range is open until November 21.
