MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) – As 2020’s presidential election heats up, Vice President Mike Pence visited Northeast Wisconsin Wednesday. He spoke at the Marinette Marine shipyard where he pushed the Trump administration’s record on jobs.
“This is a growing economy, in a growing state, in a growing nation,” Pence told gathered workers. “And it’s remarkable to me that it’s going to continue.”
Pence toured the shipbuilding facility and got a look at the USS Cooperstown, a naval Littoral Combat Ship under construction at the Marinette Shipyard.
“[Marinette Marine] has played a critical role in the national defense of the United States of America for generations,” Pence said.
Pence told employees that President Donald Trump is working to increase military spending and trying to create a 350-ship Navy, which the company will play a role in building.
Wisconsin’s role as a vital swing state was clear during the speech. Pence used some of his speech to urge congressional democrats to pass the US-Mexico-Canada trade deal.
“The truth is, Speaker Nancy Pelosi has had the USMCA on her desk for a year,” Pence told the crowd. “The time has come for democrats in congress to put politics aside.”
Pence was originally supposed to visit in October, but the visit was rescheduled.
