APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Recent weather has the City of Appleton adding on a few weeks to their regularly scheduled curbside leaf collections.
Early snow and other precipitation this fall have restricted the city when it comes to curbside collections. Communications Coordinator Chad Doran says some residents haven’t had any leaves picked up yet this year.
“With the weather pattern we’ve had, a lot of people are saying they still have leaves on their trees yet that haven’t fallen and they haven’t had a chance to rake them,” Doran says.
Taking a look at the forecast, the Public Works Department is deciding to hold off on winterizing the trucks for another couple of weeks.
“Our Public Works Department is going to do an extra bonus round of leaf collection for our residents. We know that because of the snow, it prevented some people from getting out and raking their yards and getting those leaves out to the curb,” Doran tells WTAQ News, “We’ll collect on the south side next week and if the weather holds, we’ll do another week on the north side. So we’ll get through that as quickly as we can.”
The additional rounds are coming with a few stipulations. If weather gets bad before those collections, Doran says the rounds will be canceled. Once the rounds are either canceled or wrapped up, Doran says the trucks will be done for the season.
“Property owners will be responsible for removing those leaves, bringing them to our yard waste site on Glendale Avenue or disposing them. But we won’t allow people to leave them out on the curb anymore because we won’t be picking them up. We’ll be bringing all of our trucks in to get them fitted for plows.”
Leaves must be on the curb by Sunday night to be collected by the city. This week will see collections north of the river.
