LAKEWOOD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A weekend winter storm left white powder covering many parts of the state, leaving people around Wisconsin working to dig out from under the snow.
Winter Storm Ariana buried Lakewood in about a foot of snow, but Bob Gartzke of Lakewood took a measured approach to help his neighbors.
“Went out and did a little snow blowing. Tried to get things cleaned up so people can move around,” Gartzke says, “Everything’s going good today. Blowing good. Nice warm day. No wind. Everything’s good. You can get lots done.”
Around the corner, Walter Lewandowski was hoping the weather would change course and help as he worked to scrape off his vehicle.
“I’m letting the sun do the work right now. Once it’s cleared off, the sun will take care of it,” Lewandowski says, “If it gets cloudy, that’s a different story.”
Even with all of the snow, all 480 miles of snowmobile trails around Oconto County remained closed Monday. Sid Steinmetz with the Paul Bunyan Riders Snowmobile Club says there’s still a lot of work to do.
“We’re grooming the trails, panning them down, pack them, so they’ll freeze hard and get that good base for snowmobilers,” says Steinmetz.
The Oconto County Snowmobile Alliance hopes to have all of the trails open by Christmas.
