OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Seymour man is being charged with attempted child sexual exploitation after trying to solicit nude images from someone he thought was a 15-year old boy. It was actually a Sturgeon Bay police officer.
27-year old Andy Coenen is being held on a $15,000 bond and will return to court December 26th. Coenen is a special education teacher in Mishicot and has been placed on leave.
“To our knowledge, the arrest was made in relation to an alleged situation that occurred off district property and that did not include any Mishicot students. However, as always, we encourage our students and families to report any inappropriate or potentially illegal activities to the Mishicot Police Department,” Superintendent Paul Orlich stated in a letter to parents.
A Sturgeon Bay police officer posing as a teenage boy exchanged multiple electronic messages with Coenen, who requested photos of the “boy” on several occasions, according to the complaint.
When police arrived to arrest him, Coenen acknowledged police were there because of the messages and said he was “stupid,” according to the complaint.
There is no indication in the complaint Coenen ever tried to set up a meeting with the “boy.”
