DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) — If you’re out shopping Saturday you may run in to some friendly faces…
It’s the 25th year of Green Bay’s Shop With a Cop program and Saturday 165 kids and police officers alike from throughout the Green Bay area will descend on local stores to pick out Christmas presents.
“This is truly, from the day it started 25 years ago until [now], this event doesn’t happen without…the community involved,” Officer Jedd Bradley of the De Pere police department told WTAQ.
Bradley manages the program. Officers and deputies from across Brown County will be taking part.
This is the first year that Green Bay Shop With a Cop won’t be held at Shopko after that retailer went under earlier this year. Bradley says the announcement that Shopko was folding was of some concern.
“We all went into panic mode when Shopko made their announcement,” Bradley said Friday. “Shopko was a supporter since day one. But then…Wal-Mart stepped up.”
All Brown County area Wal-Mart stores are participating in the event. Donations are still being accepted at the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation.
