DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – When you think Door County, vacation may be the first thing that comes to mind.
But the Door County Economic Development Corporation wants that to change.
“We’re really going to be making an effort to reach out, to go to people, to be present in those moments that they are looking for a life change,” said Kelsey Fox, workforce development specialist.
She tells FOX 11 right now Door County has at least 800 open positions.
The plan is to use the county economic development corporation’s new website, livedoorcounty.org, to market to and then attract more workers, especially during peak vacation months.
“From May to about the end of October so that’s when we’re going to be hitting them hard both in county and out of county.”
The website gives a brief overview of the job market and offers a job search tab. The site also offers tips on where to live and what type of schools are available in the county.
“We’re so excited to have this tool for our community,” said Ashley White.
She’s the marketing manager for Marine Travelift. It’s a company that specializes in mobile boat lifts.
White tells FOX 11 livedoorcounty.org will help the company where she works.
“We, right now have 14 open positions so anything that we can have that’ll help get the word out, we’re more than happy about.”
The economic development corporation also invited local businesses and handed out tool kits to help them market to potential employees.
A $50,000 matching grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation helped with the creation of the website.
