APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A downtown Appleton building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Wisconsin Historical Society announced Thursday the Appleton Post-Crescent building on the corner of W. Washington St. and N. Superior St. was added.
The Art Deco-style building was constructed for the Appleton Post-Crescent newspaper in 1932.
It went through some updates in 1951, 1972, and 1991 to adapt to new technologies in the print industry.
Earlier this year, it was announced the building would be remodeled into a $12 million housing project, comprised of 69 apartments.
With it now being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the housing project is eligible for federal historic tax credits.
Developers of the project say they plan to preserve the history of the building.
The National Register of Historic Places is a list of historic properties throughout the U.S. that are deemed worthy of preservation and is maintained by the National Park Service in the U.S. Department of the Interior
