NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) — Christmas came for a family in need in Neenah this week.
The family of Liz Leubke had their lives turned upside down in May of last year when she suffered a serious medical complication during childbirth.
“When Lizzie was giving birth to their second child, she had an amniotic fluid embolism,” her sister, Jennifer Blank, told WTAQ. “That caused her to have cardiac arrest and had a lack of oxygen to the brain for six minutes during the delivery process.”
The complication left Liz with serious, likely unrecoverable brain damage.
“She needs constant care. 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said her sister, Dori Smith.
“It’s unlikely she will ever be back home in any normal state,” Blank added.
Her husband, Tyler, has been making medical decisions for his wife and caring for their two children…all while juggling bills and working as much as he can.
The Luebke family was selected by Midwest Communications as the beneficiary for the annual “Best Christmas Ever” fundraiser. They were surprised Thursday night.
The kids got what was on their Christmas lists. And Tyler? He got $1,000 to pay any bill he needs and over $6,000 for home repairs.
It’s the second year Midwest Communications has partnered with “Best Christmas Ever”.
