Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers were good again on Wednesday night against the best team in baseball, just not good enough as the Los Angeles Dodgers came away with a 2-1 victory at American Family Field. Tony Gonsolin, looking like the favorite for this year’s Cy Young Award in the National League, shut down the Crew on 2 hits through seven scoreless innings, striking out 8 to improve to 15-1 on the year. He no hit Milwaukee through four before Keston Hiura singled in the 5th. Eric Lauer matched Gonsolin with five scoreless innings but on the first pitch of the 6th, number 9 hitter Austin Barnes took him deep for a 1-0 lead. Max Muncy launched a solo homer in the 7th. Milwaukee’s only run came in the 8th on a Christian Yelich RBI single. The Brewers had two runners on in the ninth but couldn’t come up with the equalizer as they managed just four hits for the game. The Dodgers are running away with the NL West title at 81-35, 17 games clear of second place San Diego. The Brewers drop to 62-54. With St. Louis beating Colorado 5-1 and the Padres rolling over Miami 10-3, Milwaukee is now three games behind the Cards in the NL Central race and have fallen two games back of San Diego for the third and final Wild Card spot. The Brewers will send their ace to the hill to try and gain a split in the four game series with L.A. as Corbin Burnes faces off against Andrew Heaney.
