ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ)- Ashwaubenon Public Safety is investigating an act of vandalism that occurred outside of the Fox 11 WLUK studios Friday morning.
Some staff members at Fox 11 WLUK said they noticed a man hitting their electronic sign multiple times, destorying some panels.
“We noticed this individual using a big stick and taking out our sign.”
Ppolice eventually found the instrument used, and identifeid it as a piece of a crucifix that was stolen from Nativity of Our Lord Catholic church hours earlier.
Police interviewed witnesses at the church and they were told that man, with his face covered, sat down at the piano and lit a cigarette while asking for the clergy. Witnesses told Ashwaubenon Public Safety that he stole the crucifix and left in his vehicle.
At Fox 11, General Manager Jay Zollar says it is the second act of vandalism to their property this week.
“We did have somebody come over and just spraypaint some crosses on our building.”
Zollar said they are unaware if the crimes are related.
Police have released surveillance images of the suspect.
“It happened in broad daylight when everyone was watching” Zollar said. “It was kind of shocking.”
After being confronted by an employee, the man walked away across the street.
