GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ – Police say a man is in custody after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle Monday night.
Officers say the suspect stole the vehicle earlier in the day.
A witness later spotted the vehicle at the Taco Bell at College Avenue and Lilas Drive in Appleton.
When the witness went to confront the suspect, he sped away, hitting other vehicles.
Police chased after the suspect. He eventually crashed in a wooded area near the Grand Chute Police Department.
Officers say the suspect was treated for minor injuries and taken to jail.
The suspact has been identified as 56 year old Earl J. Hillsberg off Waupun.
He was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owners Consent, Theft, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and First Offense – OWI.
He was confined at the Outagamie County Jail on those charges.
He also received traffic citations for Operating after Suspension, Hit and Run to Occupied Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Unsafe Lane Deviation.
Additional charges may be requested following the completion of the investigation.
