GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) Wisconsin’s senior Senator says the President should not make investigating possible voter fraud his top priority.
Ron Johnson telling WTAQ’s Jerry Bader Show today (Friday) that while ensuring the integrity of elections is “extremely important,” he “would not list this as a top priority the Donald Trump administration should be focused on at this time.”
Trump says he wants an investigation into the widely debunked claim that there was widespread voter fraud in the November election he won.
Trump claims anywhere from 3 to 5 million votes were illegally cast…and that’s why he did not win the popular vote on election day.
Eau Claire County Clerk Donna Austad says President Trump’s complaint about voter fraud is unfounded in her office.
Austad says voters are flagged once they vote in Wisconsin, meaning they’ll be caught if they try to vote again in another state.
Johnson won re-election in November and Trump carried Wisconsin.
A recount of Wisconsin’s presidential election results changed few votes and revealed no widespread abuse or fraud.
Johnson says he would like Trump to focus on things like regulatory reform, even though he says it is “not a very sexy subject.”
