GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Eight people suffered minor injuries after a fire at a Green Bay apartment complex Sunday morning.
Green Bay Metro Fire crews were called to the Valley Green Apartment Complex, at 1686 Shawano Avenue, at 6:24 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the front of the west side complex and flames shooting out of a second floor apartment in the rear of the building.
Crews set up a ladder at the back of the building as people were hanging out of windows. Seven people and a dog were rescued using the ladder. Everyone else inside the building got out safely.
8 people were treated for minor injuries.
There was a 14-year-old and 10-year-old inside the unit where the fire is believed to have been started, according to the Green Bay Metro Fire Dept.
Green Bay Metro’s Fire Marshal’s Office is currently working at finding a cause of this fire. Damage is estimated at $200,000.
Ashwaubenon Public Safety, Howard Fire Department, De Pere Fire Department, and County Rescue were called in to assist with this fire. The Red Cross has set up a shelter for displaced residents at Green Bay West High School.
