MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The Powerball jackpot may be a world record, but Wisconsin ticket sales fell short for last week.
The state lottery says $21.7 million worth of Powerball tickets were sold in a week when the jackpots climbed to a U.S. record $900 million.
The state Powerball sales record is $22.3 million in August of 2001 for a jackpot of $295 million. Those tickets cost just $1 back then instead of the present $2, which means that actual ticket purchases are way down from the record sales revenues of ’01.
The top prize for Wednesday is now $1.5 billion with a cash option of $868 million.
