MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) – Manitowoc police say a 52-year-old man was shot and killed Friday morning after he answered a knock at his door.
Authorities say it happened at a house in the 2200 block of S. 9th Street around 5:30 a.m.
Manitowoc Police Captain Larry Zimney said, “Four other family members, the man’s wife, two stepsons and a grandchild were home at the time of the incident. All of those people are safe.”
Zimney says the suspect fled, and has not been found or identified.
The victim has been identified as Kor Yang. Responding officers and EMS personnel attempted life saving measures by performing CPR on Yang, but they were unsuccessful. Yang was pronounced dead at the scene.
“At this time the Manitowoc Police Department does have any reason to believe that this was any type of random act,” said Zimney. “We believe the citizens of Manitowoc are safe.”
He would get into specifics of why police say this does not appear to be a random act.
Zimney says this is the first shooting homicide in the city of Manitowoc since 2001.
“It’s a safe community,” Zimney reiterated.
The State Crime Lab and Wisconsin State Patrol have been called in to help investigate, per standard protocol.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Manitowoc Police Department at (920) 686-6500 or Crime Stoppers at (920) 683-4466.
Police add that there is no connection between this homicide and the Netflix series “Making a Murderer“.
