WALDO, WI (WTAQ) – A man convicted of possessing large amounts of explosives seven years ago is under arrest after his house exploded in Sheboygan County over the weekend.
The blast occurred Saturday at the home of 42-year-old Daniel Shilts in Waldo. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they said Shilts was sweeping up glass from broken porch windows — and he claimed there was a welding accident.
Sunday, the Milwaukee County Bomb Squad helped deputies remove chemicals from the home which are used to make fireworks.
Officials say Shilts was arrested for violating the terms of a 2008 parole for possessing improvised explosives — his second such arrest in the last four years — and he was convicted of bail jumping for possessing fireworks-related chemicals in 2012.
