OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski says they wanted to pay tribute to the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, which is coming up in December.
There will be aircraft from that era and historians and veterans will talk about what it was like before and after December 7th, 1941.
“Changed our culture as we know it and certainly, looking strictly from aviation, changed aviation history as well.”
Kanpinski says one aircraft that could generate some attention is a restored Interstate Cadet that was over the island of Oahu when the Japanese flew by.
“This airplane was actually being flown by a flight instructor and someone taking a flying lesson that morning, in 1941, when they saw the air forces of the Japanese navy fly by them on their way to Pearl Harbor”
Both American and Japanese aircraft of the era will be featured in the “Tora, Tora, Tora!” air show performances.
AirVenture attracts hundred of thousands of plane enthusiasts and spectators to Wittman Regional Airport every year. The 2016 edition will run from July 25th – through- July 31st.
