STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will be closing the Bayview Bridge in Sturgeon Bay starting March 1.
DOT officials say the bridge, which carries Highway 42/57 over the Sturgeon Bay ship canal, will be undergoing a $3.6 million rehabilitation project.
The bridge will be closed until July 4.
The project includes the following work:
- Replacing steel beams and the steel grid deck
- Replacing expansion joints and bearing
- Performing concrete repairs to girders, abutments, and parapet.
- Repairing and replacing machinery and electrical component
- Bridges over the exit ramp for northbound Green Bay Road, just east of County S, will receive concrete overlays and minor surface repairs.
Here is the detour route:
- Northbound non-truck traffic will be detoured via S. Madison Avenue, Michigan Street, N. 3rd Avenue, Jefferson Street, Egg Harbor Road, Old Hwy Road and a temporary Egg Harbor Road connector to Hwy. 42/57. Reverse direction for southbound traffic.
- Truck detour will bypass the downtown area via Michigan Street and 14th Avenue.
- Detour will remain in place through the end of June with traffic on Hwy. 42/57 open prior to 4th of July weekend.
Boats will only be allowed through half of the lift span and there will be height restrictions because the spans will be closed and locked in the down position during construction.
Meanwhile, Hwy. 42/57 will also be closed from the bridge to Egg Harbor Road for utility work in preparation for a highway reconstruction project in the spring.
