INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Packers are talking with college seniors at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and will get to watch them in testing starting Friday.
The Packers always say they don’t draft for need, but it’s pretty safe to say that General Manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy will have a close eye on the tight ends and linebackers this week.
At linebacker, Mike McCarthy made a point in his season ending press conference to let people know he wants to move Clay Matthews back to the outside this coming season and they may need a three-down inside linebacker either in the draft or in free agency to pull that off.
McCarthy also said they need a receiver that can stretch the middle of the field, most likely from the tight end position.
Arkansas’ Hunter Henry is the top tight end and could be available when the Packers draft 27th in the first round.
