OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – Oshkosh police say an 18-year-old man is under arrest after being accused of sexting a minor.
The investigation began after a school resource officer alerted the Oshkosh PD about the teen sending inappropriate photos to at least one underage person using the social media app Snapchat.
He was taken to jail following his arrest in the 300 block of S. Koeller Street on February 25.
The 18-year-old is facing charges of causing a child to view sexual material and exposing genitals to minors.
Investigators say the suspect had two accounts on Snapchat: Maxwell872 and Jmoney371. Police believe there may be more victims and urge parents to talk with their children to see if any contact was made with either account.
If your child did have contact with either account, you call School Resource Officer David Maas at (920) 252-0233 or Detective Sgt. Joe Framke at (920) 236-5734.
Oshkosh police also remind parents that this is an example of the dangers of using social media, especially for children. Parents are asked to monitor their children’s computer and phone usage, as well as educate your children on the dangers of the Internet and social media.
There are several websites here, here and here that parents can use for tips on having that conversation.
