GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A man who jumped off the Leo Frigo Bridge is getting a second chance at life, thanks to some Green Bay Police officers.
Police were called for a report of a suicidal male on the bridge at 1:34 p.m. Saturday. People near the scene said the man had jumped.
When officers arrived on the bridge, they spotted the man on the girders below the bridge. The cops spoke with the man and learned he was very upset and emotional.
“They were able to use their crisis negotiation skills and their communication skills to negotiate a safe return for this male back onto the bridge,” said Green Bay Police Capt. Kevin Warych.
The man was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
“We don’t want that person to get to that point in their life,” Warych explained. “We want them to pick up the phone, we want them to extend their hand and say ‘Hey I want some help’.”
