SEYMOUR, WI (WTAQ) – The Seymour Police Department has surpassed its funding goal to launch its K9 program.
Nearly $97,000 has been collected, above the $90,000 target.
Chief Richard Buntrock explains the reasoning for getting the department’s first-ever K9.
“Do some networking with our school children, do searches in the school and out in the community as well, and for traffic stops when we encounter drugs.”
Buntrock says Officer Brett Stauber will be the one to work with the K9.
“My sergeant and Officer Stauber are going to be going down to Kansas in the first part of May. They’ll be doing what they call the ‘pairing’ with Officer Stauber’s personality and a dog that they feel would work well with him.”
Buntrock says the goal is to wrap up training in September.
